I have used following techniques as shown below in this 3ds max tutorial.

[1]-First of all you will press (ctrl +N) now you will see the new window is open
Now click on the Plane button and create a Plane like this in the Perspective view port

[2]-Now create a Cylinder in the top view port with the following setting
(Radius: 17.0) (Height: 46.0)
Set the Cylinder like this in the top view

[3]-Create a Cone in the top view with the following size

[4]-Now apply the Taper Modifier and use the following setting
Open the material assigns the material like this

Now convert into the Editable Poly and select the Element Mode

Editable poly techniques and basic standard primitives modeling

[1]-First of all you will press (ctrl +N) now you will see the new window is open
Click on the Geometry > Standard primitives > Box and use the following setting
Create a Box in the front view port

Create like this in the left view port

Create a Cylinder like this and Boolean it

Set the both box to the edge of the big box

[14]-Select the big box and convert into the Editable Poly now select the Polygon mode
With Ignore Back Facing

Open the rendering palette select the Enable in View port and Enable in Rendering
Set the Thickness 1.61

[21]-Create a Sphere with following setting
Radius: 3.9 and Hemisphere: 3.9

[22]-Open the material window and click on the diffuse map button select the bitmap option
Now pick the Jpg like this and assign to the bench
