Pros And Cons of Muay Thai

If, like many people, you find yourself reading this article because you are considering the idea of getting involved in some kind of contact sport then you couldn’t do much better than the one and only Muay Thai! Clearly, as with anything, there are pros and cons which are worth considering, some will be super obvious, others might give you food for thought, hopefully making your decision-making process slightly easier;

The Pros

  • Improved fitness – There is no doubt that, if you are going to be taking part in Boxing in Reading, or Muay Thai, then you will benefit from improved fitness. Infact it’s probably the best form of exercise for an all-over thorough work out!
  • Improved strength – If you attend classes, or sessions a few times a week then your body will naturally become stronger. Especially as you will be hitting, and kicking things, the body strengthens itself as part of defense, and as part of its recovery process.
  • Become more sociable – Even if you are a sociable person already, when you find the right group of people to train with, you will form new friendships/bonds.
  • Learn unique attack/defense techniques – Unless you have already been practicing the art of Muay Thai for some time then you absolutely will learn new methods of defence, and attack.
  • Have a more peaceful mind – With a properly structured training regime you will also benefit from a higher dose of natural endorphins being released as you go through your different activities – proven to help you keep a healthy mind.

The Cons

  • You may have to exercise in the cold, or wet weather – The chances are, that you’ll need to do a warm up run which is fine in the summer however, it could be enough to keep some people in the comfort of their own home.
  • You could end up getting punched – There’s a saying that goes a little something like this ‘if you keep going to the barber, you’ll probably end up with a hair cut’. Well, guess what, if you keep on attending a club full of fighters, you are probably going to get a punch in the face at some point.
  • You could end up getting kicked – As above, the same rule applies, keep going to the swimming pool and, you’re going to get wet at some point!
  • You could end up in a lot of pain – You will endure some pain, that all depends on how hard you train and whether or not you choose to fight.

Choice Is Yours

There you have it, hopefully you are motivated to look into the matter further, equally you could very easily be having second thoughts about getting punched and kicked! Either way, you should at least attend a local club and see if it’s the place for you!
